How it begins
There was once a king who had twelve beautiful daughters. They slept in twelve beds, all in one room. When they went to bed, the doors were shut and locked. But every morning, their shoes were completely worn through, as if they had been dancing in them all night long. Nobody could work out how this happened, or where the princesses had been.
